Roles and permissions

For Dojo owners and administrators, Coaches

In short

A person's role at a dojo decides what they can do there. Owners and administrators run everything, including payments, the dojo's identity, its rules and who is a lead coach. Lead coaches also manage members, classes, site content, the AI Sensei and the growth desk. Coaches grade, take attendance, coach match videos and run events. Students, competitors and parents use the dojo's pages and their own family's records.

Where to find it: Admin console → People → Members

The roles a dojo gives

  • Owner and administrator: everything at the dojo.
  • Coach: the dojo's instructors. A coach can be made a lead coach, who also runs the day-to-day desks below.
  • Competitor: a student on the competition team.
  • Member: a student of the dojo.
  • Parent: a parent or guardian who acts for the children linked to them.

Every coach, lead or not, grades belt tests, takes attendance, leaves coaching notes and reminds families about events.

Good to know

  • A lead coach cannot make anyone an owner or administrator, and cannot change another lead coach's role.
  • Only an owner or administrator can make a coach a lead coach, and nobody can change their own tier.
  • What the console shows a person follows these rules, and the server checks them again on every change, so a control that is not yours to use is either not shown or refused.
