Run a belt test

For Coaches, Dojo owners and administrators

In short

An administrator or lead coach schedules the test under Belt testing. Any of the dojo's instructors can then add candidates and, from the day of the test, record Passed, Not passed or Absent for each. A Passed result records the grading, and the student and their family are told.

Where to find it: Admin console → Progress → Belt testing

Scheduling a test

Administrators and lead coaches schedule tests: open Belt testing on the Coach Dashboard or Admin console → Progress → Belt testing, press Schedule a belt test, and give it a Date (required), and if you like a Start time, Name, Where and Notes for candidates.

A test is never deleted. Cancel this test keeps it, marked cancelled.

Listing who is testing

Open the test; under Add candidates, press Add, then use Search the roster to add each student. The rank they are testing for starts at the next rung of your belt ladder and can be changed. A Stated minimums met chip shows when the student meets every minimum your ladder states.

Recording results

From the day of the test, each candidate has Passed, Not passed and Absent, an optional note, and Record result. Add the Examiner once and it is written on each grading a pass records.

When everyone is recorded, an administrator or lead coach presses Complete this test; anyone still listed is marked absent.

Correcting a result

Press Change on the result. If it was Passed, the grading it recorded is voided — kept with the reason you give, never deleted — before the new result is recorded.

Who is told

  • Being listed tells the student and their family: "Belt test scheduled".
  • A pass tells them a new rank was recorded.
  • Not passed and Absent send no notification.
  • When your dojo's reminder emails are on, candidates and their families are reminded a week and a day before, a parent or guardian kept by email on the student's family contacts included.

Good to know

You need a belt ladder first. See Admin console → Progress → Belt ladder.
